What Is Funny, But Make It Fashion?
Funny, But Make It Fashion is a live comedy-fashion competition where stand-up comedians become creative directors, audience members become models, and jokes become wearable art.
During the show, comedians perform stand-up sets that inspire original T-shirt designs. Audience members are then transformed into models and participate in live photo shoots directed by the comedians themselves. The evening concludes with a runway, the reveal of the finished campaign photos, and the crowning of a winning design.
Every shirt created during the show is made available for purchase, with proceeds supporting the Health Alliance for Chicago Comedians and its mission to increase access to healthcare and resources for Chicago's comedy community.
Our History
Funny, But Make It Fashion was created by comedian, photographer, and educator Nkechi Chibueze in New Orleans, Louisiana, in 2020.
From 2021 to 2024, the show was produced monthly at Siberia Lounge and Big Couch NOLA, building a dedicated following by combining stand-up comedy, fashion, drag, and audience participation into a one-of-a-kind live experience.
Since its debut, the show has been featured at:
In 2025, the show expanded to Chicago, where it began partnering with the Health Alliance for Chicago Comedians (HACC) to raise funds and awareness for comedian healthcare initiatives.

Nkechi Chibueze is a comedian, photographer, educator, and producer currently based in the Chicago area. She created Funny, But Make It Fashion to celebrate creativity across artistic disciplines and to provide comedians with a platform that is collaborative, playful, and community-driven.
